Day four of 2012 - it'a all a numbers game

Untitled Document Have we got the numbers?
Countdown leader or Film leader
At the start of films, a countdown sequence is printed on the head leader, to aid in synchronizing the film. In film (but not television) the countdown is in units of feet rather than time units.
A film leader is a length of film attached to the head or tail of a film to assist in threading a projector or telecine.
Most of the time, the countdown is not seen by the viewer; it's there to help the projectionist get the timing right.

I have decided to create the character Malcom of Murrurundi.
.mal.com..better than mal ware (mal/where??), perhaps mal..adjusted or even mal...ignant  (mal/ignorant),  mal...evolent ...etc, etc

Self awareness or consciousness means we always live
within our own head space. Our own thought bubbles
totally dominate our lives. We can never get inside someone
else's head,  nor escape our own mind.
No wonder human perception is a "brain washed state".
Once we admit that, we can become more aware of
the dominance of our own thought bubbles in determining
our perceptions and experiences of the world.

Today another local identity, a plumber called Geoffrey called into my place to give me advice on setting up a cistern type float release valve for our large fish ponds.
This will be used to allow water from our tanks  to remain at a set height in the fish pond.
What really surprised me about Geoffrey was his knowledge of the programs on ABC Radio National. Another surprise was the little book he carried with him full of quotes and the phone number of the Prime Minister, to whom he had sent a letter about his concerns on government policy.

Geoffrey reading from his notebook. He shared this quote:
  "Your words become your actions.
    Your actions become your character.
    Your character becomes your destiny."

Our lives are almost totally controlled by numbers.
Calendars, time, speed limits, telephones, street
addresses, distances, temperature, birthdays, exam
results, our age, our height, weight, calories,
blood pressure, heart beat.. and these are just only
a few examples of the controlling, regulating
aspects of the ubiquitous numbers in our lives.
Numbers are simply inescapable. But words are something else.

Just up the road from where I live is an old derelict hotel,
once famously known as the Tattersalls Hotel. It is owned
by a very old identity, Harold Burraston, who provides simple
accommodation for men. He also lives in the disused hotel.
This piano has sat on the verandah of the hotel for years, and
has been progressively decaying. It is has been a surprise to me
not to see this piano vandalised, but simply age, mainly due
to its exposure to the weather.

  The Day's Postsript

  • Leslie my 'computer help desk' helped me set up a wireless connection between my laptop computer and printer. It worked first time. It is a lovely experience to be in the company of people who help you out of their natural generosity, simply because that is their character. I absolutely despise mean spiritedness in people. I feel safe with people who don't have  that "what's in it for me" mentality. I have a number of friends who never count the cost of their generosity,  but who simply remain gracious in their loving kindness at all times.
  • I always remind the mean-spirited people that they lose everything they own when they die; and, that  they have no recollection, no memory once they have died. It is therefore pointless in stacking up earthly riches, because like all the Pharaohs, history proves grave robbers or family will ransack whatever you owned and the spoils will belong to someone else, for just a little while.
  • I thank all the people who know what it is to live generously, and who have crossed my path. Those intersections 'have made all the difference'
